About Us
The church was organized October 18, 1970. The service was brought to order by our pastor, Rev. Wendell Blair, Sr., with a song, “Glory, Glory, Hallelujah.” Our meeting place was in the living room of our pastor’s home. The resolution was adopted and resolved that we would strive to have the kind of church that God is calling for in these last days.
The name was accepted “TRUE VINE OF HOLINESS MISSIONARY BAPTIST CHURCH.” In the meeting, there were eight people present: our Pastor, his wife (the late Sister Barbara Blair), their daughter RaLonda, along with Mattie Tillis and her son Darryl Wright, Willie Lacy, Jr., his wife, Eurrell D. Lacy, and their son Kevin Lacy (a candidate for baptism). Since that time the “VINE” has been fruitful. The Lord blessed us to purchase a house at 4200 Easter, which our pastor and members worked hard to convert into a comfortable church building. Acts 2:47 says, “Praising God, and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved.” The Lord increased the numbers from eight to a greater number and we outgrew the building on Easter street.
Good news came that the Lord was blessing us again, as a lot was purchased at 831 Ann Arbor. This building was erected with our founder and organizer drawing the blue print. Many observed from the foundation to the finish, and then we looked up to Heaven and thanked God, saying “Oh, How Great Thou Art.” After being on Easter Street for one year and three months the announcement came and we moved to 831 Ann Arbor. As we entered into the doors of our new building, we were making joyful noises to the Lord. We had tears flowing and we were thanking God for his goodness, because He had brought us from a mighty long ways.
St. John 15:1, 2 says “I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman. Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away; and every branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit.” We continued to believe that the Lord was still in the blessing business, because we witness more members uniting with a mind to work, we outgrew the building on Ann Arbor and were blessed to purchase another lot at 6728 Altaire, (our present location.)

God has brought us from the living room of our Pastor’s home, to a beautiful sanctuary in which we worship Him. Many good things has happen for us, many trials have come our way, and still we press on. We have a Pastor with a vision, and we the members are committed to follow the vision. The ministries of this church are still progressing, new ministries are in works, with more ideas to come.
Our purpose is to be Seed Planters; planting seeds today for a greater harvest tomorrow. We are loyal supporters of our local district, True Fellowship Baptist District Association, where our pastor serves as Moderator. We currently represent in the local, state, and national congress and conventions. We support foreign missions, Christian schools and help provide food for the hungry and aide to the poor. Our ministry work is unlimited and we strive daily to live as true missionaries in the name of the Lord.
We have a bright and promising future ahead, and we are going to make our numbers count as we plant seeds for the harvest. Our pastor has a commitment to do the will of God, knowing that there is nothing that God cannot do. Our pastor, Dr. Wendell Blair, Sr. is a man who cares about people and their welfare, and we the members of True Vine has committed to follow our pastor, organizer, founder and leader as he has committed to follow the directions of our Lord. Planting seeds today for a greater harvest tomorrow.
On our 47th year we dedicated a memorial garden in recognition of the late Mrs. Barbara J. Blair, who was the First Lady for 19 years. As good stewards we profess that our God is still with us. We thank God for blessing us to witness 49 years of growth and maturity. Each year brings about new challenges, and we have found it easier to face them, knowing that our God is always there, because He promised never to leave us alone.
